Safety & trust
Adventure boldly. Look after each other.
Kippo connects real people for real trips outdoors. These are the ground rules that keep the community worth joining.
Community guidelines
- Be honest about who you are and what a trip involves.
- No harassment, discrimination, or unwanted contact — on or off the trail.
- Keep group chat for the adventure. No spam, scams or off-platform selling.
- Respect land, private property, wildlife and local rules. Leave no trace.
- Never pressure anyone to continue beyond their ability or comfort.
Organiser responsibilities
- Describe the route, distance, difficulty and expected duration accurately.
- List required gear and any minimum fitness or experience.
- Give a clear meeting point and start time, and a reachable contact number.
- State the cost up front, including anything paid separately.
- Carry a plan for bad weather, injury and turning back.
- If you charge for a trip, you are responsible for your own permits, licensing and insurance where the law requires them.
Participant expectations
- Only join trips you are genuinely fit and equipped for.
- Show up on time, or cancel early so someone else can take the spot.
- Tell the organiser about medical conditions that could matter on the day.
- Follow the organiser's calls on route, pace and turnaround times.
- Tell someone at home where you're going and when you expect to be back.
Outdoor safety basics
- Check the weather and tides before you leave, and again on the morning.
- Water, sun protection, warm layer, headlamp, basic first aid — every time.
- Carry a charged phone; don't rely on signal. Offline maps help.
- Stay with the group. Agree on regroup points before you split up.
- In an emergency in South Africa: 112 from a mobile, or 10177 for ambulance services.
Reporting a person or an adventure
If something feels wrong — a misleading listing, unsafe behaviour, harassment or a payment request that looks like a scam — tell us and we'll look into it.
- Note the adventure link and the person's name.
- Email safety@kippo.co.za with what happened and when.
- If anyone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services first, then tell us.
We can warn, suspend or remove accounts and take listings down. Reports stay confidential from the person you report.
What Kippo is and isn't
Kippo is a place to find and organise trips. Organisers are not employees or guides vetted by us unless a trip is marked Kippo Curated. You take part at your own risk and should use your own judgement about the people and conditions on the day.
